My personal library contains more than 5oo books, and keeps growing. My first love is historical romances, like stories about mail-order brides, the civil war, pioneer times and the way people lived without the conveniences we now take for granted.
My favorite authors are Jodi Thomas, her Ransom Canyon and Harmony series especially, Carolyn Brown's cowboy romances, Joan Johnston, Cindy Holby, Janet Dailey, Laverle Spencer, Johanna Lindsey, Linda Lael Miller and many others.
The very best book I've read is "The Yankee Widow" by Linda Lael Miller. It's the story of a young widow whose husband dies in the civil war and of the war's aftermath. A wonderfully touching story - You'll need a lot of tissues to read this one!
For a change of pace, I enjoy reading Regency romances. Tops on this list is Julia Quinn, especially her fabulous Bridgerton series, Mary Jo Putney, Lorraine Heath, Grace Burrows.
Louis L'amour's complete works of over 120 books fills one of my bookshelves. He writes so descriptively that it's like watching a movie - you can almost smell the dust from the horses' hooves!
With five book cases full of favorites, I read a novel almost every night. Those books which don't make me want to read them again are given away.
Some of my own stories reflect events that my grandparents or other old-timers have told me about, from their pioneer years.
My dream home would be a log house in the country, with a wood cookstove, (If the hydro goes out in a storm, you've still got heat and food), a clothesline to hang the washing, bringing in the scent of sunshine and fresh air.
But I'm spoiled now and would also want modern conveniences like a freezer, indoor plumbing and a shower, and a handsome young man to chop firewood and mow lawns and shovel snow. Surely that's not asking for too much, is it?
